The History of the Macfpa

    by Frank Szewczyk, founder Macfpa

All the existing parents have heard this story before but for potential Mac Football
families and friends it is a story worth telling. The Macfpa came into being with the last
game of the 2005 season. A handful of parents brought tables and cookies. The local
Ripon, Wisconsin delivered pizza right to the team bus. The record that year was 0-8.
The smiles on the players and athletic staff after the game was priceless.

Starting with the 2006 season the Macfpa started to crawl. We held post game meals of
sloppy joes, pizza, subs, cookies, chips, and fruit. Players would gather after the game
wherever we played and enjoyed some post game food, hugs, and smiles. A big thanks
to Bob Hanks who was integral to the season's success. The Team finished 2006 2-7
under the new staff and things were looking up!

If we crawled in 2006 we learned to walk in 2007. The menu expanded to a Chicago
style buffet of beef, chicken, and mostocoli. Homemade beef and sloppy joes also
made the table. We sold sweat shirts to parents and friends and thunder sticks to
whoever wanted to make some noise.  A big thanks to the Boomgaartens, Cheryl
Lyons, the Westcotts, Michelle Engstrom, the Slobes, the Hanks, and the Lois family.
Thanks to my wife Karen who lost me to the Internet as I tried to keep everyone in the
loop. The season record was 4-5 and I believe we, as parents and friends, were
partially responsible for their success, albeit in a very small way.

The coaching staff has been instrumental in their support of the program. Thank yous
go out to Travis Freeze the former Athletic Director for his support of the Mafca. A big
thanks to Ron Osterman. who provided tables and site assistance on the day of the
    game.

An unexpected surprise was the creation of the Frank Szewczyk Award by the Staff to
honor a member of the Macalester College football community who has shown
outstanding dedication and commitment to the program. The question is who will win
    it this year?

The future is bright for Mac Football and the Macfpa!

    Go Mac!
